Caregivers in Greenwood, IN – Being Organized Helps Free-up Time for Caregiving and Family
Getting organized is a familiar phrase and a popular topic on today’s decorating shows. Every family has its own struggles with clutter. For some it’s stacks of paper and others its knick-knacks or books or clothing or something else. Getting organized and then staying that way really helps you save time. You no longer spend time looking for “lost” items, and other tasks get done more quickly.
Here are some ways to organize your life, divided up into categories so you can organize one area of the time. One category focuses on organizing your morning routine while the other one focuses on the bathroom. If it’s one thing caregivers can use more of it is time. So spend a little time today on organizing to save you tons of time later.
Mornings and evenings
- Prepare as much as you can for the next morning. Tonight you can choose your clothing, have kids get their backpacks ready, pack as much of the school and work lunches as possible.
- Decide on breakfast the evening before. You could even set the dishes on the table and decide who is cooking what and what time it will be done. If having cold cereal, set the box on the table.
- Check your vehicle’s gas tank. It’s better to fill up now than rushing on the way to work in the morning.
Bathroom
- Get rid of as much clutter off the counter as possible. Organize things into baskets and put in cupboards and drawers. Then when someone needs something, they can pull out a basket, use the item and then return the basket. Group like things together.
- Use shower caddies for soap and shampoo and accessories so they aren’t stacked up along the edge of the tub. It makes it look much neater plus tub cleaning is easier and quicker to do.
- Open the door of your medicine cabinet and look for a place to stick a small magnetic strip, just big enough to hold tweezers, scissors and nail clippers so you’re never searching for them again.
- Keep empty bottles and unused items cleared out of the bathroom. Toss them out or rinse and recycle as soon as they are used up or everyone refuses to use it.
- Install enough rods and hooks to hang towels so they aren’t always on the floor or flung over the edge of the tub. Assign a spot for each person and let them use the same towel all week to cut down on unnecessary laundry.
If being organized isn’t enough to help you make time for your family and caregiving duties, it’s time to consider hiring a home care provider to take some of that weight off your shoulders.
