Senior Care in Indianapolis, IN

Senior-Care-in-Indianapolis-INThe season of Santa and eggnog is right around the corner. For most people, this time of year fills them with joy and Christmas cheer. For adult children of seniors, making sure their elderly parents are well taken care of during this time of year is a priority. Preparation is key when it comes to having a great fun filled holiday so read on to learn a number of things that adult children can do to help their parents deal with some of the stress that comes along with the holidays.

1.  Set realistic travel goals

Traveling is usually a big part of the holiday season. Getting from point A to point B with a senior can be a bit difficult if an adult child does not have realistic expectations. It’s important to realize that seniors can get sore and uncomfortable when traveling for long distances. Rather than take a senior on a long ride, the adult child needs to see about bringing the family to them. If the relatives that live out of town are younger, it will be much easier on them to travel to where the senior is. Making these types of preparations will keep a senior happy and healthy throughout the holidays.

2.  Stay on schedule

Having a schedule of events is a great way to stay on track. Most seniors thrive when there is structure to the madness of the holidays. By letting the seniors know where they need to be and at what time can help them prepare for the activities. Neglecting to schedule out the events of the holidays may lead to unnecessary stress, which can tarnish the magic of this time of year.

3.  Budget the holiday spending

Most seniors live on a fixed income, which means they may not have a ton of money to spend during the holiday. Adult children can help the senior create a realistic budget. Shopping for gifts will be much easier for the senior if they have a set amount they know they can spend. Neglecting to put this type of budget in place may lead to undue stress if the senior over spends.

4.  Put priority on senior care

Another great way for an adult child to help their elderly parents during this time of year is by keeping their senior care provider on the same schedule. Skimping on senior care during this time of year could be hazardous to the health of an elderly person. Be sure to speak with the senior care provider to see what their schedule is so it will be easier to plan accordingly.
